What is Hydroseeding?

Hydroseeding is a process in which seed, water, fertilizer, fiber mulch, tackifier, and soil amendments (if needed) are mixed together in a tank to form a thick, nutrient rich “slurry”.  This slurry is then applied via hose, or tower gun, to the soil.  This saturated mulch creates a bond to the soil, resisting wind and erosion, and enhancing seed germination.  As the grass seed germinates, the fiber mulch slowly decomposes, adding nutrients to the soil.

Advantages of HYDROSEEDING

There are some definite advantages of hydroseeding vs. laying sod

  • hydroseeding is roughly 1/3 the price of sod (or less)
  • no back-breaking labor involved laying and cutting sod
  • with hydroseeding, the root system of the lawn grows on site, whereas with sod, the roots are potentially exposed to disease when the turf is cut
  • custom seed blends allow for tailor made solutions depending on the needs/wants of the property owner.
